13 07 2023

Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah, born in the US to Ghanaian parents, is gaining acclaim for his writing exploring the interplay of capitalism and racism.

The New York based author’s first publication, Friday Black, a collection of short stories, became a New York Times bestseller in 2018. His debut novel Chain-Gang All-Stars, released July 2023, is shortlisted for the Waterstones Debut Fiction Prize. Following an imagined future where prisoners compete in televised gladiator-style fights to gain their freedom, the novel was described by Ron Charles in The Washington Post as 'a dystopian vision so upsetting and illuminating that it should permanently shift our understanding of who we are and what we’re capable of doing'.
